The Mercury Bay Museum was opened in 1979 following a successful community fundraising project to secure the Mercury Bay Dairy Co-op building to house the new museum.  The Museum is still operating under the same roof 47 years later.  The Museum is proud to protect, preserve and promote the rich history of Te Whanganui o Hei Mercury.  We host over 7,000 visitors a year –  from our local community, to visitors from all over New Zealand and abroad. 

 

We protect our history by preserving taonga artefacts, photos and archive material for future generations to connect with our community. We promote our history and stories through interactive exhibits, public programming events and education.  We are a registered New Zealand Charity.
