Some Wellington cast and crew will be there, a Q&A afterwards with the director and key crew, and a roof raising performance by the NPYMC Kapa Haka Group! 30% of all tickets sales from this screening will be gifted to the Ngāti Pōneke Young Māori Club. Founded in 1937, Ngāti Pōneke Young Māori Club (NPYMC) was created to support Māori moving to Wellington from across Aotearoa. As the oldest pan-tribal Māori cultural group in Aotearoa, their legacy continues here in Wellington across generations of whānau who uphold and grow the kaupapa through kapa haka, waiata, te reo Māori, tikanga, and community. For nearly 90 years, Ngāti Pōneke Young Māori Club has been a cultural home for all in the capital. The Club recently represented Aotearoa at the 10th China New Zealand Film Festival and Carnival, where 1978 had its world premiere. Their long-standing relationship with Wellington's Chinese community made this moment especially meaningful. Join us for the Auckland premiere of 1978 in the spectacular region of Tāmaki Makaurau! This is going to be a great event, and we are proud to announce that the Auckland charity for these screenings is BBM Motivation, run by the living legend Dave Letele! There will be a Q&A afterwards with key 1978 Cast and Crew, and we cant wait to share with you! 30% of every ticket will go directly to support BBM Motivation. Established in 2014, Buttabean Motivation has been supporting communities across New Zealand since 2014, helping people improve their health, fitness, and overall wellbeing. Their team is made up of people with lived experience who understand what it takes to change your mindset and your life. They operate gyms in Manukau, New Lynn, and Tokoroa, offering weekly classes including From The Couch, our flagship 12-week healthy lifestyle program, Boxing, HIIT, CrossFit, Yoga, as well as male and female-only classes, and sessions for children and teens. In Auckland, they run the BBM Foodshare, providing food support to individuals and families in need with the help of generous community donations. They also operate a community kitchen in South Auckland that supports our nutrition programmes.
